We have all heard the repotts on the news of the widespread concern over education in the United States. There is no question that education in this country needs serious reform. The three-yearly OECD Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) report, which compares the knowledge and skills of 15-year-olds in 70 countries around the world, ranked the United States 14th out of 34 OECD countries for reading skills, 17th for science and a below-average 25th for mathmatics. According to the AP: "This is an absolute wake-up call for America," U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in an interview with the Associated Press. "The results are extrordinarily challenging to us and we have to deal with the brutal truth. We have to get much more serious about investing in education."
The new millenium was ushered in by a dramatic technological revolution. The world we live in today is one of extreme technological advances. The world is changing, evolving and expanding into new dimensions of possibilities for the future. If the world is advancing so much, why isn't education? Technically it is the 21st century, but our schools are not there, and our challenge now is to reinvent schools for the 21st century. Think beyond the box.
Life FIrst Training Center is one of the many contemporary education facilities poppint over this nation with the desire to improve education through change.
Imagine a school where every child has their own computer at their desk. Where students can participate in virtual classrooms and online learning. The SECA program, in corporation with the California Virtual Acadamies, has made this a reality. Did you know that the average elementary student in the San Joaquin public school system will only have access to a computer at school for 1-2 hours per week? The United States continues to lag other nations in its use of computing and communications technology, according to an annual study issued recently by the World Economic Forum.
Imagine a school where students don't have just one teacher but an entire team of educators assisting them as they learn. The average classroom size in San Joaquin Valley is about 30 children to one teacher. The SECA program provides multiple learning coaches for each child. Wach child will also be taught by top notch credentialed California teachers in all academic subject areas.
Imagine a school where children's learning goes
beyond academics, teaching them about human, social and
environmental understanding, physical health and wellbeing. A
school where "Life Skills" are incorporated as part of the daily
curriculum. The SECA curriculum will also include the
following additional components of instruction:
1. Health
(including nutrition and exercise education, personal hygiene
and full body health)
2. Stress Management
3. Social/Behavioral
Training (including bullying prevention)
4. Dealing with
Money (including finances and economics)
5. Drugs, Alcohol
and Smoking Prevention
6. Safety (including CPR, First Aid,
Abuse and Abduction Prevention, Fire Safety and much more)
7. Community Dynamics and Teamwork
8. Moral Code
9.
Diversity Appreciation and Respect
10. Self-Confidence
Training
11. Environmental Education
And much more....
Imagine a school where Arts and Music are considered to be required subjects. The SECA program will give every child the opportunity to express themselves creatively. Art and/or Music will be included in the everyday curriculum. Did you know that the right brain is used in emotional perception, intuition and creativity? It is the right brain that is mainly used when a person is involved in creative endeavours such as making art. It is this part of the brain that typical school environment neglects to train. By stimulating and exercising the right hemisphere of the brain, the arts strengthen the connection between the hemispheres. Kids should be exposed to the arts as their cognative skills mature so that their right brain will be as developed as the left, and both hemispheres work in tandem, thus achieving the full potential of the mind.
Imagine a school where Physical Education is a priority. The SECA program will include a large variety of different physical education lessons and activities. Students will receive PE every day. Did you know that many schools in the San Joaquin Valley have eliminated PE or offer it only once a week? With over 17% of children in America being considered obese today, we need to make exercise a priority in children's lives.
Imagine a school where students are taught with the very latest high quality curriculum. In coopreation with the California Virtual Academies (a program accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges), students will be provided the very best in curriculum and instruction.
You don't have to imagine anymore. Please call or email us today to receive your informational packet on the SECA opportunity for your child.
